SaabKyle videos are usually long and super thorough in-depth tours and reviews of the cars he features. But every now and then he takes one these cars that has a particularly nice soundtrack out for a quick spin. The car in question this time is a 2016 Jaguar XJR, and although the focus here is on the exhaust note you also get a good look at the car itself and get a sense of how it drives. Jaguar XJR is a luxury saloon afflicted with obscurity, even though it is a fantastic piece of engineering. Well, it seems that the supremacy of the smug Porsche Panamera Turbo, which has long been the fastest, wildest, most vicious sports sedan, is at an end as the new Alfa Romeo Giulia QV (Quadrifoglio Verde) kicks its Teutonic bottom around the Nurburgring. The Italian car set a lap time of 7:32s which is six seconds quicker than the Porsche. The Alfa Romeo Giulia QV setting the record was driven by the company’s ace test driver Fabio France and it was equipped with the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, proving once again that the manual transmission is a thing of the past. For comparison, a manual QV set a record of 7:39. Monterey Car Week truly deserves the title of the world’s best motoring event on account of the amount of automotive awesomeness it manages to cram into one week. You have the Quail, the Pebble Beach Concours, Fuel Run, and Exotics on Cannery Row. It’s just a non-stop orgy of supercar goodness at the end of which you’re going to have some sore tires! You have to forgive us for ripping off old man Hemingway for the title of this post because in some ways the Alfa Romeo 8C in these photos reminds us of the character in The Old Man and the Sea. Just look at it sitting there staring the sea in the face, braving the cruelties of a world that no longer pays any attention to it. No, these days it is the young man, the carbon-thin Alfa 4C, that is the center of attention. Cars like Alfa Romeo 8C are there with the dinosaurs, what with their rubbish engineering, wasteful engines, and imprecise handling. One of the few things in the world that’s never disappointing is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This event is always full of automotive awesomeness, from magnificent vintage models to mode concepts and special editions. In this gallery you can check out some of the highlights of this year’s concours. The focus here is more on the vintage and classic cars at 2016 Pebble Beach Concours, which is fair enough as the mode stuff, like Maybach Vision 6 and Lamborghini Centenario Roadster, are getting plenty enough time in other posts. Looking at these photos one cannot help but think that a large part of the greatness of this event is due to the location. There is just something magical about that lawn and that beach in general that makes all the difference. The same can be said of Villa d’Este in Italy and the Goodwood Estate in Britain. Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach Concourse are quite possibly the world’s most prestigious motoring events. It takes a lot to stand out in that crowd, and nigh on impossible to become a showstopper. But it appears this year’s the show has already been stopped by this, the stunning Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder. As the name suggests, Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder is an open-top version of the Alfa 8C-based Disco Volante which created quite a buzz when it was first introduced some years ago and even made Jeremy Clarkson go all soft and gooey when he drove it. Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach Concourse have always been significant events for Swedish hyper car maker Koenigsegg. They always reserve their most special debuts for this event. So following last year’s debut of the One:1, this year at Monterey they will introduce the new Koenigsegg Agera XS. The latest one-off Agera will be on display alongside the company’s brand-new and yet-to-be-launched Regera which will flaunt its 1,500 horsepower hybrid power at Monetery to whet the appetite of U.S. customer prior to the car’s launch in early 2017. They are only making 80 Regeras.
