Well, it seems that the supremacy of the smug Porsche Panamera Turbo, which has long been the fastest, wildest, most vicious sports sedan, is at an end as the new Alfa Romeo Giulia QV (Quadrifoglio Verde) kicks its Teutonic bottom around the Nurburgring. The Italian car set a lap time of 7:32s which is six seconds quicker than the Porsche. The Alfa Romeo Giulia QV setting the record was driven by the company’s ace test driver Fabio France and it was equipped with the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, proving once again that the manual transmission is a thing of the past. For comparison, a manual QV set a record of 7:39. You have to forgive us for ripping off old man Hemingway for the title of this post because in some ways the Alfa Romeo 8C in these photos reminds us of the character in The Old Man and the Sea. The guys at Garage Italia Customs are among the most visionary, which is to say weird, tuners in the auto world. If you have been following their previous works like BMW i8 Futurism and Mazda MX-5 Levanto, you know they are not very fond of the ordinary. And their latest project, an Alfa Romeo 4C dressed in a “Great Wave” theme, attests to that. The Great Wave by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai is a 19th century woodwork art depicting a massive tsunami. What that has to do with the Alfa Romeo 4C we have no idea. But there is no denying applying that artwork to the body of the Italian sports car has resulted in something quite unique. As far as art cars go, GIC’s Great Wave 4C is up there with the best of them. That’s a good thing, because Alfa Romeo 4C Great Wave is set to go on display at Piston Head II: Artists Engage The Automobile, at the Venus gallery of Los Angeles from July 30th. It’ll be interesting to see how this piece compares with other art cars at the show, and whether anything can surpass it in terms of design and inspiration. The Great Wave exterior on this Alfa Romeo 4C by Garage Italia Customs is complemented with a bespoke interior styled with Japanese denim and Foglizzo leather. So far everything we have shown you of the Alfa Romeo Giulia has been of the range-topping Quadrifoglio version with the 510 hp engine. That’s fair enough, you’ll agree, because that’s the version everybody wants. But what if you can’t afford a QV and still want a Giulia in your life? Well, then you have to settle for one of the lower trim grades, either the regular Giulia or the one called Super which is what we have we have here. This Alfa Romeo Giulia is the middle of the range variant with a 2.2 liter diesel engine that pumps out 180 horsepower. It doesn’t look as sexy as the QV, but if you need a bit of that Giulia action on a budget, this baby is your best bet. [embedded content] The 2.2-litre Diesel engine in the regular Alfa Romeo Giulia is available in two versions, with a 180 HP power at 3,750 rpm (maximum torque of up to 450 Nm at 1,750 rpm) and 150 HP at 4,000 rpm (maximum torque of 380 Nm at 1,500 rpm). The guys from Impressive Wrap, in all their branches from Hong Kong to Califoia, have already proven that when it comes to unique designs and colors, they are a head and shoulders above the competition. And now they’ve done it again by giving this Alfa Romeo 4C an interesting two-tone look. The coolest thing about this wrap is the simplicity of the job in spite of the profound effect it has on the way the car looks. The base was a white Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition which meant it already came with stuff like carbon mirrors, gunmetal wheels, and colored aero parts. So instead of wrapping the whole thing iW went for a partial wrap, covering the hood and roof in Satin Black and gaishing it with Chrome Red accents. What resulted was a 4C that looks like an exotic bird! Being a Launch Edition also means this Alfa Romeo 4C features a Madreperla White tri-coat paint job, carbon fiber headlight bezels, rear spoiler and mirror caps, rear aluminium extractor with dark finishing, red brake calipers, racing exhaust system and high performance air intakes, uprated shock absorbers and rear anti-roll bar, sport seats, and a numbered plaque inside the cabin.
