It is no longer cool, at least among the sophisticated well-to-do people, to have the biggest, largest and most extravagant. That is why luxury car makers have adopted  downsizing routine this past few years, although downsizing for them is replacing a V12, or W12, engine with a V8. That is the case with the 2018 Bentley Bentayga V8. Powered by a sweet-sounding 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, the 2018 Bentley Bentayga V8is the ‘sensible’ version of this super deluxe SUV with 550 horsepower and 568 lb.ft. (770 Nm) of torque. That power is what makes the W12 version look utterly and completely pointless. It propels the road yacht from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds), on to a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h). Do you really need a faster SUV? A faster car? Brain scientists tell us that this magnificently complex organ initiates any given action before we have even decided to do it. What that implies with regards to free will notwithstanding, car makers are trying to take advantage of this feature of the brain to make autonomous driving better. Nissan Brain-to-Vehicle is the first of these systems that “promises to speed up reaction times for drivers.” What that means is, the cars of the future will have an artificial intelligence powerful enough to read your brain signals which are essentially electric waves. It then interprets those signals and adjusts the car’s behavior with the ultimate aim of making you more comfortable and driving more fun. Yes, I know. Just a few weeks after the hardtop, Chevrolet unveiled the 2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The $124K drop-top supercar astonishes the L.A. crowd with its unashamedly brash looks and its colossal 755 horsepower output.  That makes the 2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible one of the performance bargains of the century when it hits the market next year. You may be aware that Nissan has an ongoing partnership with the Star Wars franchise. Now at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show they take this relationship to a whole new level, unveiling a fleet of six Star Wars-themed vehicles.
