2018 Ford Mustang GT Gets Quiet Start Mode

As car lovers we love the rumble of a V8 or the shrieking soprano of a compact V12 as much as the next guy. But like all we think there is a time and a place for experiencing this wonder of internal combustion, and that 08:00 a.m. on a Saturday at the end of a cul-de-sac ain’t it. That is basically why the new 2018 Ford Mustang GT is getting a Quiet Start mode.

Also known as Good Neighbor mode, the quiet start features of the 2018 Ford Mustang GT limits the sound of the 5.0 liter V8 engine by closing the active valves in the exhaust system. You can activate this system via the onboard driving mode selector in the instrument controlled by the steering wheel-mounted thumb controls. And the best thing is you don’t have to worry about forgetting about setting it up as it can be programmed to automatically engage, say, between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Both new Quiet Exhaust mode and Quiet Start features will be part of the available active valve performance exhaust system on the new Mustang GT, along with different exhaust volumes for Normal, Sport and Track modes, giving customers more choice than ever before.

This is absolutely brilliant because as much as we love a good sport exhaust sound we don’t want to hear it while relaxing on our sofa or trying to sleep. Of course for this system to properly work the driver has to be a decent person. If he’s one of those douchbags who enjoys annoying people in the middle of the night with his loud exhaust there is nothing Ford or anybody else can do to alleviate the situation. Well, except for the police maybe.
