2017 Honda Clarity Electric – Pricing and Specs

After a not so successful experiment with fuel cells Honda has now switched the Clarity to electric and plug-in hybrid in the hope that they would turn this car into a success. We shall soon find out if they are onto something as the 2017 Honda Clarity Electric is tarting to arrive at select dealerships in California and Oregon.

Just like its fuel cell sibling, Honda Clarity Electric is lease-only, at least for now, with a competitive lease price of $269 (plus tax) a month for 36 months, with allowance of 20,000 miles per year and 24/7 roadside assistance.

The lease, which reflects a federal tax credit built in, requires $1,730 down plus the first month’s lease payment due at signing (not including tax, registration or official fees). In addition, if they apply, California and Oregon customers may qualify for their state’s rebates of $2,500 once they become available.

As for what kind of electric car you get with the 2017 Honda Clarity Electric, the powertrain is a 161-horsepower (120-kilowatt) electric motor producing 221 lb.-ft. of torque getting juice from a 25.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The pack does well in charging, getting full in just over three hours on a 240 volt outlet with fast charger with the ability to get 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes. The equivalent economy figures for this output 126/103/114 MPGe (city/highway/combined). Sadly the range is pretty terrible at just 89 miles on a full charge.

Some of the premium features that set the Clarity Electric apart from rivals include Cobalt Blue Pearl exterior color, 18 inch alloys, 8-inch Display Audio with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies.
