While you are waiting for the next BMW M5, based on the new 5 Series, to arrive there is a way to satisfy your suprfast 5er needs. This is it, the 2017 BMW Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo, and it is so good – at least on paper – that there doesn’t seem to be a need for an M5 anymore.
The handsome and extremely classy 2017 BMW Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo comes with pretty much as power as the next M5 is expected to have. It packs a 4.4 litre V8 engine with Bi-Turbo charging and an output of 608 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, sent to the rear or all of the wheels via an 8-Speed Sport-Automatic transmission with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC. This system give the B5 a pulverizing 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.5 seconds and top speed of 325 km/h.
Available as Salon and Touring, the 2017 BMW Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo also excels in terms of design and equipment. Granted, it doesn’t look as naughty as an M5, but with the classic Alpina cues all over the body, and the all-important Alpina 20 inch Classic wheels, it looks more than good enough. The car also gets for the first time active rear-wheel steering (Integral Active Steering) complementing the electronically controlled dampers for excellent handling.
