2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS – First Details

It has been known for a while that Porsche is working on a super hard-core version of the current 991 series, something a lot spicier than the GT3 RS or the R, or in fact the 997 GT2 which was a bit of a wild goose. This new model now shifts into focus as it prepares for debut later this year, and it’s called the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Now, if you know your Porsches you know that anything with the ‘GT2’ badge is to greatly feared and admired, for it’s the wildest, most powerful, least forgiving of the 911s. The new car goes even beyond that, adding the equally impressive ‘RS’ moniker to the mix. What results in unlike anything we’ve seen from the German car maker. It could be the closes thing to a race car for the streets.

Actually, the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is even hotter than that, since the racing RSR 911s have what, 500, 550 horsepower? This thing is said to pack nearly 700 horsepower! The GT2 RS uses a heavily modified Turbo S engine with between 650 and 700 horses and 750 Nm of torque, and it has to haul a sports car that weighs, all told,under 1,500 kg. That kind of explains why the RS sports such a huge wing at the back and winglets on the front bumper. Despite the scary looks and wince-inducing performance numbers (0-100 km/hin 2.5 seconds, top speed well over 320 km/h), the GT2 RS does not appear to be a stripped-out track car. You still get plenty of leather, air con, and sat nav.
