BMW X4 xDrive35i Turbo Performance Parts Upgrades

This blog hasn’t beamed out much enthusiasm in the past regarding the BMW X4. The last mention was to acknowledge regarding BMW finally making the X4 look decent. In that post, the X4 of years’ past was described as looking like a baby hippo stepped on by its own mother not to mention lacking adequate tuning options. It exemplified a problem which faces many BMW models: an attempt to achieve sporty, family, and luxury all in one.

Yet the ultimate focus of our last blog post covering the X4 was, as alluded to in the previous paragraph, a sum of praise for a modified X4 – an xDrive35i Turbo to be exact – which has helped to redeem the missteps made during manufacturing.

While the kit we discussed didn’t delve very deep into the BMW parts such as the engine or transmission – the lack of under-the-hood tuning options for the X4 remain an issue – there are now several BMW performance parts which can greatly improve the vehicle’s racing endurance and handling:

Cooling System

-Intercooler: Many drivers of the turbocharged X4 xDrive35i are noticing reduced performance per the manufacturer’s specifications and original BMW parts. The problem is oftentimes rooted in a poorly performing factory intercooler, suggesting preemptive BMW replacement parts may be required.

-Silicone hose couplers: Pushing a turbocharged X4 to the limit will no doubt put strain on BMW parts like the cooling system, requiring fortified BMW performance parts such as hose couplers made from silicone to withstand the harsh environment under the hood during peak performance.

-Heat defense tape: Like silicone couplers and other BWM performance parts, heat defense tape helps to protect hoses and connectors from damage associated with long-term hot temperatures. The advantage of tape is its potential to help treat literal hot spots throughout the cooling system.

-Coolant temperature gauge: It’s not enough to know the engine isn’t overheating. Having a BMW part that tells you the exact temperature the coolant is at is a critical piece of information during performance activity on the open road and closed course.

Electrical

-Racing battery shutoff switch: The demands of a vehicle at peak performance on the electrical system often require a secondary or even third battery onboard. To prevent a surge when no longer needed, there is a BWM part called a dash mounted shutoff switch which can be useful.

-Horn upgrade kit: While BMW parts such as the car horn, are most often used to vent frustration, is ultimately a safety tool which can be the difference between a major collision and avoiding one. Those driving a vehicle like the turbocharged X4 would benefit from BMW aftermarket parts such as the dual origin horn system to warn other drivers before disaster strikes.

-Race data logger: This is in many ways the nerve center of the street race car. When combined with a legacy bridge to communicate with the vehicle’s native computer and synced to sensors, a race data logger provides drivers with the information they need to properly assess their vehicle’s current state. For those with a modified BMW performance parts on their X4 turbo, it’s a must-have if taking it to the track.

Exhaust

-Stainless steel piping: Successfully whipping through a large accumulation of water during a sharp turn is a rite of passage for street racers – unfortunately this wreaks havoc on the BMW exhaust system parts underneath, causing premature rusting and deterioration. BMW performance parts like stainless steel exhaust piping are a good way to reduce the unbalanced wear-and-tear that happens while pushing a car to peak performance on city streets.

-Heat wrap kit: Just like the heat defense tape and silicone coupler upgraded BMW performance parts for the coolant system, performance grade exhaust heat wraps help to reduce the damage factor associated with consistent elevated temperatures.

Suspension

-Sport-grade coil spring set: Navigating tight turns and bumps in the road are critical achievements for the accomplished racer. However, they wear out the suspension so other BMW replacement parts are likely needed for peak performance on a regular basis. For this project, opt for sport-grade coil spring set for a longer lasting replacement.

We haven’t thought very highly of the BMW X4 in the past, but that’s changing, thanks to the innovations and cutting edge improvements in BMW performance parts technology made in BMW’s automotive design studio and then brought to life at the factory. Ultimately, it’s a good sign for a model which has struggled to find its footing in a competitive market.
