2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE Tackles Nurburgring

In recent years the Camaro has been transforming itself from a pure and red-blooded American muscle car into a sports car with European feelings, and that is because of a little place called the Nurburgring. So it was only natural they sent the new 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE over there, and it was only fitting that it set a respectable time. 

Lapping the Nurburgring’s 12.9-mile (20.8 km) Nordschleife (“north loop”) in 7:16.04, the 2018 Camaro Zl1 1LE is not the fastest car of its type ever to tackle the Green Hell, but it is the fastest Camaro. In fact, it is a whopping 14 seconds (thereabouts) faster than the regular ZL1 with a 10-speed auto transmission.

The difference is down to the 1LE track pack with its adjustable suspension components — including Multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve) front and rear dampers — special front dive planes and carbon-fiber rear wing, and exclusive Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R summer-only tires.And of course, a large chunk of the credit goes to the 650 horsepower LT4 supercharged V-8 engine which is as powerful as Odin and Thor combined!

With chassis adjustability unlike any vehicle in its peer group, the Camaro ZL1 1LE challenges supercars from around the world regardless of cost, configuration or propulsion system,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “To make up more than a second per mile on the Nordschleife compared to the ZL1 automatic is a dramatic improvement and speaks to the 1LE’s enhanced track features.”
