Official: 2018 Mercedes X-Class

The production version of the Mercedes X-Class pickup truck has finally been unveiled in Cape Town, South Africa, and the terrible cliche goes, it is the Mercedes of pickup trucks. There is actually a bit of truth to that, in that the 2018 X-Class is a head and shoulders above the other contenders in this segment in terms of luxury and quality. 

I mean, the cool and rather elegant looks aside, 2018 Mercedes X-Class boasts a pretty awesome interior that we’d be happy to have on our luxury sedans. And it’s a really premium place too, with three trim parts for the cockpit, six seat covers including two leather variants with contrasting topstitching, and two colours for the roof lining. The truck itself is available in three trims of Pure which is the base model, Progressive which is the mid-range version and top-of-the-line Power.

Engine-wise, the Mercedes X-Class launches with a common rail diesel X 220 d (120 kW/163 hp) and X 250 d (140 kW/190 hp) as well as a petrol engine (122 kW/165 hp) in selected markets. A top-of-the-range V6 diesel (190kW/258hp) will be released mid-2018 occupying a leading position in the segment. Also from launch customers can add accessories such as  styling bar, side bar, canopy, various covers as well as numerous cargo and off-road solutions. There is also 4MATIC all-wheel drive and a suit of safety features including Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Traffic Sign Assist, among others. So really, the X-Class is a very fine SUV with the rear part of the roof chopped away.

Mercedes X-Class is, of course, not targeted at your average peasant. The pickup will start at 37,294 Euro and goes up from there when it launches in November 2017 in Europe and later on in South Africa and Australia at the beginning of 2018, as well as Argentina and Brazil at the beginning of 2019.
