There are fewer things more frustrating than having a fantasy you can never live out. With movies always highlighting how cool it is to drive fast cars at a dangerous speed, it’s no surprise that ill...

In order to put in perspective where the technology in the new Porsche Panamera Hybrid comes from, the German automaker has gone to a lot of trouble shooting a commercial starring the star race car, the Porsche 919 LMP1. The reason it was troublesome was because they took the racing car straight through London in the rush hour! Porsche 919 LMP1 needed a huge crew and a couple of vans to keep it working on the street and stop it from bursting into flames because of ruing too hot at low speed. But it’s all been worth it because Porsche’s E-mobility family is here to stay and showing people that it uses technology from a racing car warms the heart of Porsche purists everywhere. Oh, and by ...

In one of the coolest and yet most pointless publicity stunts Volkswagen has ever conducted, the American branch of the company tuned a VW Beetle and sent it to the Boeville Salt Flats in Utah for a speed record. The number this Beetle LSR managed to score was 205.122 mph over a flying mile. OK, so this exercise has not been as pointless as said above because, for one thing, Volkswagen runs a Beetle in the Rallycross series and this record could boost that car’s track cred. What’s more, this stunt puts in perspective the potential of VW’s 2.0 liter turbocharged engine for tuning. The unit they used in the VW Beetle LSR, modified by THR Manufacturing, develops a colossal – for a 2.0 lite...

It is always a big deal when you see a multi-million dollar car parked on the street like an ordinary family sedan, especially one that has no business being there in the first place. This road-legal McLaren P1 GTR is a pretty crappy car to drive on public roads for obvious reasons, but it could very well be the coolest thing ever to grace the streets. It is amazing to think that somebody paid nearly two million dollar for a regular McLaren P1 – because that’s how qualify to buy a P1 GTR – then spend twice that on a racing McLaren P1 GTR, and probably the same amount again on making the thing road-legal. All that for what? To show us that he can? Well, yes, that’s how these things work ...

Volkswagen has launched a new version of the iconic Beetle in the UK featuring new styling details and upgraded specs. Don’t expect a whole new car though, as 2017 VW Beetle comes only with a revised bumper and some new fog lamps. That’s about it really, except for the new R-Line trim, which is the highlight of 2017 VW Beetle range. The R-Line gets a sporty front apron with extra air intake openings along the upper edge of the bumper. Brighter instrument panel lighting and new dials and dash styling for the Design and R-Line models as well as refreshed upholstery design are among the other notable upgrades. The R-Line version of the 2017 VW Beetle, which is what you want, replaces the ...

As we have already mentioned once or twice, this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed McLaren’s special operations unit will showcase a road-legal version of the P1 GTR created in collaboration with Lanzante. This is it, and it’s officially called McLaren P1 LM in honor of the old F1 LM. Now, Lanzante’s McLaren P1 LM is not the first road-legal P1 GTR to hit the roads. We know of at least two other examples converted for road use by private owners of the hyper track car. But it is probably the best of them, seeing as McLaren’s own MSO engineers had been involved in the development and fine-tuning of the car. What’s more, McLaren P1 LM is even more hard-core than the track version in t...

In one of the most ridiculous things they’ve ever done – and they’ve done a fair few – Volkswagen has launched a new version of the Beetle, the first car to be named as its own hashtag. They call it the PinkBeetle and insist we use the hashtag (i.e. #PinkBeetle) which we refuse to do. The car is silly enough being a Beetle and pink, it really doesn’t need that hashtag. The reason Volkswagen has done these awful things to the poor Herbie is because, they say, they want to be a “social media influencer,” by which we reckon they mean they want to go viral. Now, as you know, in order to go viral on the social media you don’t necessarily have to be amazing. Most of the things that do go vira...

Anybody with the tiniest insight into the automotive world knows how cool this is. But for those few who don’t, seeing a Porsche 911 GT1 on public roads is kind of a big deal on account of the car’s rarity, astronomical price, and the fact that it is in essence a pure racing car. As the name GT1 clearly suggests, this ultimate version of the 996-series 911 was built initially to go racing. But as per rules and regulations, Porsche had to produce a handful of road-going models to be eligible, and that resulted in the conception of the road-going Porsche 911 GT1. Despite being road-legal, the 996 GT1 came with the same basic engine as the racing version, a twin-turbo flat-six unit with ne...

GT-R fans the world over are rejoicing at the accomplishment of a feat that’s put their favorite car in the world in the Guiess bool of world record. The feat in question is the fastest drift ever conducted, and it’s been done by a specially prepared version of the Nissan GT-R Nismo. The 1,380 horsepower Godzilla, converted to be rear-wheel-drive only, managed to execute a 30 degree slide at a mind-bending 304.96 km/h, which you’ll agree is pretty impressive. It’s mindless, but really rather exciting. The location for this stunt was the Fujairah Inteational Airport in UAE and the superhuman who did the job was Masato Kawabata, the Japanese drift champion and title holder for the Japanes...
