2017 Nissan GT-R Hits NYIAS

As promised, Nissan revealed a new version of its GT-R sports car at the New York Auto Show. And as expected, it’s not really new. The 2017 Nissan GT-R continues the trend the Japanese car maker has been following this past few years in which they only slightly tweak the product and, having bumped the price, present it as a new model.

Still, that’s apparently what GT-R fans want: for the company to so the tune ups they can easily do with aftermarket parts and then charging them a lot of money. In that sense the 2017 Nissan GT-R does not disappoint, boasting a little bit more power – 570 PS and 637Nm of torque – and a refined 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. There is also a new titanium exhaust with Active Sound Enhancement. Nissan has also made some changes to the suspension to make the GT-R more comfortable and less harsh.

In terms of design, there are a fair few changes made to the exterior as well as interior, but you have to be a hard-core Godzilla aficionado to spot them. You get new chrome matte finish “V-motion” grille, a new boet, front spoiler lip and front bumper and side air vents next to the quad exit exhaust pipes. These changes are designed mainly to make 2017 Nissan GT-R more aerodynamic. Inside, you find an improved high-quality leather dashboard and a new steering wheel with paddle shifts mounted on the wheel.

That’s about it for the new GT-R in terms of significant upgrades, but you do also get new colors such as “Katsura Orange” shown here. The 2017MY Nissan GT-R launches in autumn.
