Porsche is not usually one for such stunts, but when it was proposed to them they should pit a Porsche Cayenne against a 285-tonne Air France Airbus A380, they could not refuse. Turns out they were right to be accept the challenge, as the standard Cayenne towed the giant plane a full 42 meters, securing itself a Guinness World Record.
The title this Porsche Cayenne, which was driven to the airport in France all the way from England and was also driven back after the stunt, has earned is for the ‘Heaviest aircraft pulled by a production car’ which is as impressive a feat as it sounds.
Richard Payne, a technician at Porsche Cars Great Britain who drove the Cayenne, was delighted with the achievement. “We don’t usually go this far to test the limits of our cars but I think today we got pretty close. Our cars can go a bit beyond what our customers might expect – they’re designed to be tough.” As well as setting the new record, the car was driven from London and Richard planned on driving it back again. “Credit should go to the team in Stuttgart who developed the car – they did a thorough job. I’m also very grateful to Air France and its engineers for their generosity in allowing me to tow their beautiful aircraft”.
